Using a Kick Board with A Shoulder Injury? Think Again!

Aug 29, 2022

Dr. Chelsea Smith, PT goes over the pros and cons of using a kickboard with a shoulder injury.

For swimmers actively in pain, putting your arm at the side during kick sets can help ease the pain. When a swimmer has recovered from a shoulder injury, using a kickboard isn't a bad idea, but when a swimmer was recently In pain, and their arm is in a forced overhead position ( like it is on a kickboard), that could pose more risk for pain.

In terms of timeline, there should be a pain-free period of about 2- 3 weeks.
